Done right, an influencer collaboration introduces your brand to thousands of people in one go, through someone they already trust. Done wrong, the budget is spent, the post goes up and nobody remembers it. What makes the difference is rarely luck; it's planning. Here are the five steps we use to build collaborations.
1. Get clear on the goal
What do you want from this campaign? Launching a new product, getting people to an event, or direct sales? The goal decides which creator you work with, what kind of content gets made and how you measure success. "Let's be visible" isn't a goal.
2. Look at fit, not follower count
A big follower count looks impressive, but the real question is: is this person's audience your customer? Do the creator's voice, values and relationship with their followers match your brand? Read the comments. A smaller but relevant audience, where real conversations happen, often performs better.
3. Write a clear brief, but leave room
A good brief clearly explains the campaign's goal, the key messages, dates and technical details. But it doesn't ignore the creator's own voice and style. Followers fell for that person's way of talking. Making them read a memorised ad script removes the most valuable part of the collaboration: authenticity.
4. Disclose the ad transparently
Every paid or reciprocal collaboration should be clearly disclosed. In Türkiye, the Ministry of Trade's guidelines for social media influencers also require commercial partnerships to be shown clearly to viewers, and many other countries have similar rules. Platform "paid partnership" labels and a visible ad note in the content matter both legally and for trust. Transparency doesn't lower the value of a collaboration; it builds trust.
5. Measure the results
Campaign-specific discount codes, trackable links or dedicated sign-up forms show you what the collaboration actually delivered. Beyond views, look at saves, shares and comments. That data decides who you work with next time, and how.
In short
- Goal first, name second.
- Audience fit over follower count.
- A clear brief with a free voice.
- A transparent ad label on every collaboration.
- Measurable results through codes, links and engagement.
